Healthy versus Unhealthy Skin
Healthy versus Unhealthy Skin
Healthy skin has telling signs. Healthy skin is hydrated, it is protected daily (using SPF), it does not feel like anything ( meaning it is just there, no stinging, no itching) and has a consistent texture and tone.
You can use these simple benchmarks to evaluate your skin health. The most telling sign of health is the feeling. No itching, burning, stinging, pulling.
Here are the things that can lead to unhealthy skin and breakouts (list is not exhaustive).
- Using the incorrect products for your skin type
- Not using Sun Protection
- Not focusing on skin hydration
- Over washing and over exfoliating your face
- Using harsh ingredients extensively and not under the guidance of the professional (e.g. Hydroquinone in high percentages for extended periods)
- Picking and Digging your face with your bare hands
- Not washing your make-up brushes frequently
- Not changing your pillowcase frequently
Pssst, here is a beauty secret that not enough people are talking about. HYDRATION!
Hydrated skin is the goal!
Why?
Hydrated skin receives products better so that they can actually work so all of the targeted serums and activities you want to use can actually give you some results if your skin is well hydrated. Some people say it even takes some years off. And who wouldn't want that?
Obtaining hydrated skin with your at home skincare routine does not have to be hard. You can use our Hydration Kit to achieve this. Or you can go find for yourself the right mix of these two key things needed for hydration:
1- HUMECTANTS- These pull moisture out of the air and into your skin
- OCCLUSIVES- These help the moisture obtained to stay just a little bit longer. The type matters especially if you have oily skin or sensitive skin as the wrong type can cause clogged pores and breakouts and who wants that?

Timeframe to achieve healthy skin?
Research shows that it takes the average person between 28 to 42 days for the skin to repair and replace damaged cells and for persons over 50, it can take up to 84 days. With this in mind, why would you expect your skincare products to work overnight or in 1 week?.
Healthy skin is a process.
There are some ingredients that assist in the speeding up of regeneration such as Vitamin B5 (which is included in our cleanser, toner) & Lactic Acid which is included in our Luminate Glow and Recovery Serum and Hydra-Smooth Exfoliating Scrub.
In addition, there are many other ingredients that need to work cohesively for healthy skin. Our products have been carefully curated with your skin health in mind. Also, our product sizes are large enough that one bundle can last you up to 10 weeks, giving your skin all that it needs during the average regeneration process.
Healthy Skin and Chronic Conditions
Most skin conditions like acne, rosacea and eczema can not be cured. Yes, you read that correctly. If you are an adult and still experiencing acne...it's because if you have acne prone skin...it cannot be cured. So what can you do? You can MANAGE these conditions. Management is possible to the extent where you can live symptom free. How? By repairing and maintaining a healthy skin barrier, being selective with your ingredients and consistently applying your skincare routine. For acne, we do not currently have specific actives that can help, however we do have available what is needed to help repair and maintain a healthy skin barrier.
For eczema and rosacea, management requires simplicity and avoidance of triggers. We do provide products to help manage your rosacea and eczema. You should check out our eczema blog and rosacea blog.
So, if you are feeling like you skin is unhealthy, what can you do?

Watch the magic happen! Actually, there is no magic here. This is carefully curated, clinically proven skincare at your service!
Hydrating vs Moisturizing Products
While moisturizing and hydrating may be used interchangeably, it's actually not the same thing. Both are needed in skincare but they do different things. Simply put, hydrators pull moisture out of the atmosphere and into your skin for longer-lasting effects and moisturizers trap in the existing moisture in the skin. You can well imagine that if you use moisturizing ingredients on dehydrated skin that you are simply not doing enough.
Your skin NEEDs water. So it makes just a little more sense to use ingredients that continuously pull moisture out of the atmosphere into your skin for on-going benefits.
Our Hydration Line comprises four products that a PACKED with hydrators to continuously pull water/moisture out of the atmosphere into your skin and to reduce trans-epidermal water-loss to achieve healthy skin.
Key to Healthy Skin
Simply put, your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your epidermis (and the epidermis is the outer layer of the two main layers of cells that make up your skin). A healthy skin barrier keeps irritants out, while locking natural oils and moisture in. An unhealthy skin barrier doesn’t really act as a barrier at all…instead, it allows irritants to penetrate into your skin, and that can weaken it and prevent it from functioning properly to maintain your skin’s health. This can also manifest itself in the form of dry, flaky, patchy, skin.
So here is what you do, to obtain and maintain a healthy skin barrier:
- Use pH balanced products always! If your products do not display the pH then idk what the secret is? Maybe it's time to switch to a more transparent brand
- Try to stay away from ingredients that cause irritation or that are too harsh for your skin type and do not use too many actives at the same time!
- Use SPF- I know it's annoying to keep hearing this step when you do not like wearing SPF but I too hated wearing SPF but now I do not go without it in the daytime and it's making a huge difference in my skin
You should check out our blog on pH balanced skincare.
